Scientist - Organic Chemistry & Nitrosamines - Pharma R&D (OPEN)
QA Associate - Laboratory - Pharma GMP (M/F/X)- Full Time Fixed-term Contract – Flemish Region (Geel) - 6 years experience

What you stand to gain
Join an internationally recognised analytical excellence group based in Belgium, where your work will directly contribute to patient safety through cutting-edge research on nitrosamines. You will not be applying existing methods: you will be developing them, challenging them, and collaborating with universities and external partners to push the boundaries of analytical science. This is a role for someone who wants to do real science within a demanding regulatory environment.
Why this role exists
The Advanced Molecular Analysis (AMA) team, part of the Analytical Development department within an international pharmaceutical R&D organisation, is a centre of excellence in structure elucidation, organic and inorganic trace analysis, and complex molecule analytics. Given the growing importance of nitrosamine investigations across the global pharmaceutical portfolio, the team is recruiting a specialised organic chemist to strengthen this critical capability.
What you will do day to day
• Develop and validate innovative analytical methods for the quantification of nitrosamines in various matrices and pharmaceutical products.
• Contribute to comprehensive root cause investigations related to nitrosamines, from early-stage through to late development within the R&D portfolio.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and bring your expertise in organic chemistry and mass spectrometry.
• Initiate and lead partnerships with universities and research institutions to expand the external innovation network.
• Contribute to scientific documentation review and maintain a work environment compliant with GMP and regulatory standards.
Your environment
You join an international and diverse team of scientists working on projects that directly impact the safety of both marketed and in-development pharmaceutical products. The role is based in Beerse, Belgium, fully on-site 5 days a week. 12-month contract (renewable), start date as soon as possible.
What we are looking for
• PhD in organic chemistry or a related field, or a Master's degree with a minimum of 6 years of experience in pharmaceutical R&D.
• Demonstrated expertise in nitrosamines chemistry: a clearly differentiating asset.
• Experience in mass spectrometry, including Triple Quadrupole and High-Resolution MS.
• Familiarity with chromatographic method development.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (ICH, EMA, FDA) and GMP validation requirements.
• Fluent English, written and spoken. Dutch is a plus, not mandatory.
• Belgian-based candidates preferred.
Before you apply
This role is 100% on-site in Beerse. It requires strong autonomy, the ability to learn rapidly on complex subjects, and comfort with scientific written communication. It is an intellectually demanding role where urgency and precision coexist. If you are looking for a position focused primarily on running routine methods, this is not the right fit.
